Questions people ask
Can a handyman do electrical work in Ontario?
No. Only a Licensed Electrical Contractor may do electrical work in your home — that's the Electrical Safety Authority's rule, not ours. You're allowed to do work in a home you own yourself, as long as you file the required notification and the work meets code. Anyone you hire has to be licensed.
Do I need a permit for a panel upgrade?
Yes. A Notification of Work is filed with the ESA and the job is inspected. We file it, book the inspection, and coordinate the disconnect and reconnect with your utility. It's part of what we quote, not something added at the end.
Why do panel upgrade quotes vary so much?
Because the panel is only part of the job. A service mast that needs replacing, a meter that has to move, an aged service entrance, or code defects the inspector finds will all change the number. We'll tell you which of those apply to your house before you commit to anything.
Do you charge to come out and quote?
Quotes are free. Diagnostic work — tracing a fault, testing a circuit — is a $249.99 service call, and it's the same rate day or night, weekends and holidays included. No overtime charges, ever.
